AB La campagne OBSERVHAL96 s'est déroulée du 4 au 27 août 1996 avec le submersible habité Cyana et le navire support Suroît. L'objectif de cette première utilisation à IFREMER d'un submersible habité pour les besoins de l'écologie halieutique, était d'observer in situ les ressources, leur milieu, les engins qui les exploitent et les interactions entre ces trois composantes. Les plongées ont été réalisées en Atlantique au large de la Bretagne : cinq l'ont été par moins de cent mètres, neuf entre cent et deux cents mètres, une par quatre cents mètres et quatre par plus de mille mètres. Six plongées ont été dédiées à l'étude de l'impact des engins de pêche pour observer in situ la géométrie d'un filet (trémail à lotte) et statuer sur l'éventualité de pertes de poisson lors du relevage et pour observer les traces de chaluts et évaluer l'efficacité relative chalut/submersible. Une plongée a été consacrée à la réalisation de vidéos et de prélèvements sur une structure en forme de môle, cartographiée mais de nature minéralogique inconnue. Les autres plongées avaient une finalité plus directement biologique mais quel que soit l'objectif, toutes ont permis d'observer et décrire le milieu et d'identifier et décompter les espèces.   La présence de macrocheires d'origine anthropique a également été notée. 
AB The scientific cruise Observhal96 took place in August 4-27, 1996 with the underwater system for exploration and intervention « Cyana » and the support vessel « Suroît ». The goal of this IFREMER first use of a man opereted submersible for a fisheries study was to observe fishes and invertebrates in their environment, as well as fishing gears in operation. All the dives, 2 to 5 hours long, took place off Brittany in Atlantic. Five were shalower than 100 meters, nine between 100 and 200 meters, one at 400 meters and for deeper than 1000 meters.  Six dives have been dedicated to in situ study of the impact of fishing gears : observation of the geometry of a monkfish tramel net and analysis of losses during hauling ; tracks of a bottom trawl and relative efficiency trawl/submarine. A dive was aimed at geology and mineral sampling. Other dives were oriented to biological observations but whatever the main goal, all dives have brought informations on environment and species.
