AS 1:; FF 1:; TC 0 UR https://archimer.ifremer.fr/doc/1973/publication-2164.pdf LA French DT Article DE ;Romania;Black Sea;Meroplankton;Copepoda;Zooplankton;Feeding;Sprattus sprattus AB Feeding of the S. sprattus was studied comparatively with the dynamics of the zooplanktonic trophic base. In April, the sprat consumed 1,459 t of zooplankton, especially Acartia clausi (84 per cent). Zooplanktonic productivity was 30 per cent due to Acartia clausi, and the sprat consumed 56 per cent of this copepod production. In April, the wt growth of the sprat was 115 t. In May, the sprat consumed 6.201 t of zooplankton, that resulted in a fish production of 492 t. A clausi contributed 36.41 per cent to the zooplankton production and the sprat fed on copepods at a level of 93 per cent. In June, only 1,094 t of zooplankton resulted in a fish production of 87 t. Zooplanktonic production was 60 per cent due to A. clausi, and only 12 per cent of this was consumed by the sprat. In July, 2,218 t of zooplankton led to fish-production of 232 t. A. clausi is the main element of the food but meroplanktonic organisms are also important. In Aug, 8,025 t of zooplankton, but this time It was formed mainly of Oithona nana and Penilia avirostris. As result of intense feeding an fish-production of 637 t was registered. In September, when A. clausi was again the main zooplanktonic organism, sprat consumed 6,201 t of zooplankton (fish-production of 492 t). This time only approx. 1.11 per cent of total A. clausi production was consumed by sprat, because the main elements of the food belonged to the meroplankton.
