Avant de participer à un éventuel transfert de cette activité vers les professionnels, la Direction des Ressources Vivantes de l'IFREMER a demandé aux départements RA et SDA de réaliser une étude sur les potentialités salmonicoles dans l'archipel au regard des contraintes écologiques, techniques et économiques.  En raison du court délai de temps, un certain nombre de points n'ont pas été approfondis; ils pourraient faire l'objet d'études plus fines par des organismes spécialisés.  Les annexes à ce document font le point sur l'historique du programme (annexe I), sur les contraintes techniques et biologiques (annexe II) et enfin sur les aspects économiques (annexe III).
AB This document is meant to contribute technical and economic factors that make it possible to give an assessment of the experiments in salmon farming conducted on St Pierrre and Miquelon and to envisage strategies for the future.  Before participating in a potential transfer of this activity to the professionals, IFREMER's Department of Living Resources requested the RA and SDA departments to conduct a study on salmon farming potential in the archipelago with regard to ecological, technical and economic constraints.  By reason of the short time period, a certain number of points were not delved into; they could be the subjects of more in-depth studies by specialist organisations.  The appendices to this document evaluate the history of the program (appendix I), the technical and biological constraints (appendix II) and finally the economic aspects (appendix III).
