AB The historical background of bivalve cell culture and its potential uses in molluscan pathology are reviewed. Then, primary cultures for the study of some host-pathogen interactions at the cellular level are considered. Next, alternative methods to classical cell cultures are examined that may lead to the production of bivalve celllines.
