Sur deux exemplaires de Sagamichthys schnakenbecki (Kreff!, 1973) (pisces, Clupeiformes, Searsiidae), mesurant 112 et 142 mm L.st., capturés avec un chalut à grande ouverture au cours de la campagne Rockall-Faeroe 1973 du «N.O. Thalassa» (station Z 55, 24.05.1973, 56 0 43'N 16 0 16'W, 780 m de profondeur), nous avons observé un photophore non encore signalé chez les poissons de cette famille. Il se présente comme une masse allongée de tissu lumineux à contour parfois assez irrégulier, orientée plus ou moins obliquement par rapport au bord inférieur du maxillaire (fig. 1). Ce photophore est situé sur la face externe postérieure de cet os à peu près au niveau où les bords inférieurs des deux supramaxillaires se recouvrent. Out of two specimens of Sagamichthys schnakenbecki (Kreff, 1973) (pisces, Clupeiformes, Searsiidae), measuring 112 and 142 mm L.st., caught with a high-opening trawl during the 1973 Rockall-Faeroe campaign of the "N.O. Thalassa" (station Z 55, 24.05.1973, 56 0 43'N 16 0 16'W, 780 m deep), we observed an unreported photophore in this fish family. It is a long mass of luminous tissue with a pretty irregular outline, orientated more or less sideways on to the edge of the mandible (fig. 1). This photophore is located on the posterior external side of this bone roughly where the edges of the two supramaxillas cover up. We named it maxilla organ (organe maxillaire) and gave it the following abbreviation MXO. (unverified OCR) |
