AB A l'examen du matériel planctonique récolté par le navire océanographique de l'Institut des Pêches maritimes « Président Théodore-Tissier », en automne 1958, dans le secteur de la Méditerranée occidentale situé au nord du 42" parallèle certains prélèvements se sont révélés fort intéressants pour l'étude des individus bourgeonnés par les phorozoïdes de Doliolum nationalis, récemment mis en évidence par l'un de nous. Ce tunicier pélagique y est en effet très abondant et, contrairement à ce qu'on observe habituellement, en Méditerranée comme en Atlantique, pour cette espèce représentée uniquement par des phorozoïdes, deux stades: un stade phorozoïde et un stade apparemment gonozoïde, se rencontrent ensemble. Mais ces gonozoïdes sont aberrants: ils portent à la fois des gonades bien formées et un pédoncule ventral avec des bourgeons, caractère typique de phorozoïde confirmant l'origine commune des deux sortes d'individus, également bourgeonnés par des phorozoïdes dans un cycle court qui se superposerait au cycle normal assez rarement suivi par l'espèce (BRACONNOT, 1967). Ces constatations nous ont conduits à envisager l'étude morphologique de ces « gonozoïdes» d'un nouveau type et la répartition des deux stades,   (OCR non contrôle)  
AB Examining the planktonic material collected by the oceanographic vessel of the Institute of Marine Fisheries the "Président Théodore-Tissier", in autumn 1958, in the western Mediterranean area located north of the 42nd parallel, some samples proved to be very interesting in the study of individuals budded by Doliolum nationalis phorozoids, recently characterised by a member of our team. This pelagic tunicate abounds in the area, and contrary to what is usually observed in the Mediterranean Sea or the Atlantic Ocean, for this species, embodied only by phorozoids, two stages-a phorozoid stage and a (apparently) gonozoid stage-meet together. But these gonozoids are aberrant: they have both well-shaped gonads and a ventral peduncle with buds, a typical characteristic of phorozoids which confirms the common origin of the two individuals, also budded by phorozoids in a short cycle which would superimpose on a normal cycle rarely followed by the species (BRACONNOT, 1967). These observations drove us to consider a morphological study of these "gonozoids" of a new type as well as the distribution of both stages.
