Il y a près d'un siècle que les premières demandes d'installation de parcs ostréicoles dans l'étang de Thau furent déposées auprès de l'Inscription Maritime de "Cette". Milieu sub-marin d'une superficie globale de 7 500 hectares, cet étang de 19 km de long sur 4.5 de large (fig.1) se divise en deux parties inégales séparées par le détroit formé par la pointe de Balaruc et la pointe du Barrou a Sète : l'étang des Eaux Blanches qui couvre 600 ha et le Grand étang qui s'allonge vers l'ouest sur 7 000 ha environ. More than a century ago, the first applications to set up oyster farms in the Thau Lagoon were filed with the Maritime Register of "Cette". As a brackish-marine environment with a global surface area of 7 500 ha, this lagoon is 19 km long by 4.5 km wide (Fig. 1) and is divided into two unequal parts separated by the strait formed by Balaruc Point and Barrou Point at Sète: the Eaux Blanches lagoon that covers 600 ha and the Great lagoon that stretches to the west over approximately 7 000 ha. |
