AB Le pétoncle. Chlamys varia L. est un coquillage assez commun sur nos côtes atlantiques, plus rare en Manche, Il forme des bancs importants en rade de Brest et dans la région de La Rochelle, le long de la côte nord-est de l'île de Ré, ainsi qu'entre l'île d'Oléron et le continent. On trouve encore quelques bancs, très dépeuplés, dans le bassin d'Arcachon et en quelques points de la côte méditerranéenne.   Près de La Rochelle la pêche s'effectue en bateau, à l'aide de dragues d'un mètre d'ouverture à bord d'attaque arrondi; elle est limitée à deux heures par jour de novembre à mars par souci d'éviter l'épuisement des bancs, Soixante à quatre-vingts embarcations à moteur de faible tonnage ou bateaux sardiniers se livrent à cette pêche et capturent environ 800 tonnes de pétoncles, soit près de la moitié de la production des gisements français. La taille marchande du pétoncle a été limitée aux individus de 35 mm et plus, ce qui représente, selon les années. 37 à 48 % des sujets pris par les dragues. [OCR NON CONTRÔLE]
AB The scallop Chlamys varia L. is a common shellfish of the Atlantic coast, a little rarer in the English Channel. It forms large banks in the roadstead of Brest and in the area of La Rochelle, along the north-eastern coast of the Isle of Ré, as well as between the Isle of Oléron and the continent. Some very depopulated banks can still be found in the Arcachon Bay and in some parts of the Mediterranean coast.Near La Rochelle, scallops are fished by boats using drags with an opening of 1 m and a round leading edge. It is limited to two hours per day from November to March, in order to protect the stocks. Sixty to eighty small motor boats or sardine boats take part in this fishery, catching around 800 tonnes per year, that is to say half the production of the French deposits. Their commercial size has been limited to individuals longer than 35 mm, that is to say, depending on the year, 37 to 48 % of the individuals caught by the drags.
