[OCR NON CONTRÔLE] AB The Alboran Sea is made up of two distinct basins. The first one has approximately the shape of a lozenge, surrounded by the arc of Gibraltar and the two thresholds (northern and southern) of Alboran. It is about a hundred kilometres at its largest width. Its average depth is only 1 300 m, that is 1 000 m less than in the Algero-balearic and Provencal basins. The second one is elongated, deeper (1 800 to 2 000 m) and is widely open to the east and northeast on the algero-balearic basin. The route to this latter basin is made through a more marked slope of a gradient of around 500 m and oriented NNE-SSW.
