Au cours de la campagne Polymède II du N.O. Jean-Charcot et organisée par le Département Scientifique du C.O.B., deux secteurs de la mer Ionienne ont fait l'objet d'une étude biologique des peuplements benthiques : la plaine abyssale de Messine (abyssale étant ici utilisé dans son sens topographique de bassin central éloigné des côtes), et la fosse sud de Matapan, au sud-ouest du Péloponèse. Les prélèvements ont été effectués au moyen d'une drague traineau épibenthique équipée d'un système de fermeture automatique permettant d'éviter la capture d'animaux pélagiques lors de la remontée et la perte d'échantillons benthiques. During the Polymede II cruise conducted by the R.S. "Jean-Charcot" and organized by the Scientifc department of the C.O.B., two sectors of the Ionian Sea have been the focus of a biological study of the benthic populations: the abyssal plain of Messine (abyssal being used here in its topographic meaning, that is to say a central basin away from the coast), and the Matapan South trench, to the south-west of the Peloponnesus. Samples were taken using an epibenthic drag with an automatic closing system enabling the catch of pelagic animals during the haulback and the loss of benthic samples. |
