AB Un chef de Laboratoire du Service de Biologie a été chargé par le Comité Directeur du F.I.D.O.M., de novembre 1950 à mai 1951, d'une mission d'étude des possibilités de la pêche dans les eaux des Antilles françaises. Le but de cette mission était double: - d'une part déterminer si la faune et les données géographiques des îles étaient suffisantes pour permettre le développement de l'industrie de la pêche et par conséquent le ravitaillement de plus d'un demi million d'individus; - d'autre part essayer d'orienter une partie de la main d'oeuvre antillaise, pléthorique, vers une industrie nouvelle et de conduire les pêcheurs artisans existant actuellement à une modernisation progressive de leurs conditions de vie et de travail grâce à une éducation technique. AB A head of laboratory from the Biology Service has been entitled by the management committee of the F.I.D.O.M. to study the fishing opportunities offered in the waters of the French Caribbean, from November 1950 to May 1951. The aim of this mission was double: - on the one hand, it aimed to determine if the fauna and the geographic data of these islands were sufficient to allow the development of the fishing industry, and consequently the feeding of more than half a million individuals; - on the other hand, it aimed to try and orientate some of the large Caribbean manpower towards this new industry and to drive the existing artisanal fishermen towards a gradual modernisation of their living and working conditions through a technical education.
