AB Les trois chapitres centraux de cet ouvrage constituent un commentaire explicatif des cartes de reconstitution de l'Atlantique Nord et Central qui y sont jointes. Le premier chapitre situe le modèle ainsi illustré par rapport aux autres travaux réalisés aur l'évolution de l'Atlantique et décrit la démarche, la méthode et les données utilisées. Le cinquième chapitre discute quelques unes des implications du modèle. Quant à la manière dont celui-ci a été conçu, sa principale particularité réside dans le point suivant: on a visé, dès le départ, à englober l'évolution de l'ensemble du système constitué par les plaques majeures que sont l'Amérique du Nord, l'Eurasie et l'Afrique; l'étude particulière de chaque domaine,à chaque époque, a systématiquement été rapportée à cette ensemble et évaluée par rapport à lui. Le résultat obtenu se présente donc comme la première approche d'un modèle général dont la cohérence dans le temps et dans l'espace se veut le trait essentiel. [OCR NON CONTRÔLE]
AB The three central chapters of this work constitute an explanatory comment of the jointed Central North Atlantic reconstruction maps. In the first chapter, the model is situated relatively to other works devoted to the evolution of the Atlantic ocean, the data used and the methods followed are exposed. In th fifth chapter, we discuss some of the several implications of the model. The main characteristic of this approach is that it aims to integrate from the beginningthe major plate system constituted by: the North American, Eurasian and African plates. For each geological period, results of the detailed regional studies are referred to the evolution of the whole system and evaluated according to it. [NOT CONTROLLED OCR]
