The scientific cruise CALADU 2019 (dx.doi.org/10.17600/18000929), with the HROV Ariane, onboard the research vessel L'Europe, took place in the Mediterranean Sea, off the coast of the Occitannie Region, in the Lacaze-Duthiers canyon.
The CALADU expedition had the objective of collecting data, images and samples from cold-water corals in the Lacaze-Duthiers canyon. Acoustic multibeam data were collected in order to draw a high resolution bathymetric map of the western flank of the canyon. Photos and videos will be used to measure the surface covered by this ecosystem and calculate several metrics using 3D optical mapping. Multiple image frames will be used to build geo-referenced and scaled 3D models of seafloor scenes.
Some colonies were also collected for the connectivity work package of the H2020-Atlas european project, for the assessment of Mediterranean-Atlantic genetic connectivity http://www.eu-atlas.org/.
Assessment: few data collected due to bad weather.
