In order to respond to the difficulties of comercial fishing in Guadeloupe (outermost region) and to ensure the sustainability of the supply chain , this study has as its main objective the realization of a socio-economic diagnosis of small scale fishing firms in Guadeloupe. This diagnosis was carried out to support artisanal companies in their practices to increase their profitability while preserving the halieutic resource and the associated ecosystems. By coupling a macro and micro-economic approach, this work provides, from existing data and field surveys, key indicators and technical, economic and social references allowing fishers and stakeholders to assess trends and conditions of their viability while identifying the levers to improve their profitability. This report also identifies the difficulties and good practices of the sector in order to propose recommendations and relevant adaptation strategies. A decision support tool (DIASE V1.0) for users - fishers, project managers - has been developed to simulate the implications of: strategic decisions (type and size of vessel, gears used and "métiers", method of financing invested capital, etc.); operational choices (fishing effort by "métier" including the number of days at sea, number-dimensions of gear used including the number of moored Fishing Aggregating Devices); organizational changes within small-scale companies (e.g. bookkeeping) or public policies (modifications to aid schemes, etc.). Summary sheets/flyers proposing key indicators on fishing in Guadeloupe and on the different fleets are also available.
