Abstract
Introduction : A direct consequence of traditional fishing practices is the considerable quantities of wastes and byproducts that are generated. They represent an economical and environmental problem since not all obtained from the sea is adequately used but thrown back into the sea as a waste. With the aim of classifying and quantifying the by-products, three main groups are considered: discards, wastage on board and by-products and wastage on shore.
