On rappelle les besoins de cartographie de l’interface entre terres et mers et on fait un bilan des caractéristiques de cette interface en termes de connaissances, de contraintes spatiales et temporelles. Après une typologie succincte de la cartographie des littoraux et de leurs applications on développe l‘apport de l’image numérique satellite de haute résolution et on s’appuie sur un exemple (celui de la présélection de sites aquacoles en zone intertropicale) qui répond aux trois besoins fondamentaux besoins de localisation, de quantification (inventaire) et de planification (prévision).

This paper calls back the needs of cartography of the interface between lands and sea and assesses the characteristics of this interface in terms of knowledge as spatial and temporal constraints. After a brief typology of the different thematic cartographies of coasts and their applications we develop the contribution of the digital high resolution satellite image and we lean on an example (inventory of aquaculture sites in inter-tropical zone) which meets the three basic needs of localization, quantification and economic planning.
