Les éléments nutritifs contrôlant la biomasse potentielle du phytoplancton en lagune Ebrié, ont été déterminés au moyen d'expériences d'enri­chissements sur populations naturelles "in vitro". L'ordre de limitation est géné­ralement le suivant : azote, phosphore, carbone. Dans trois cas sur onze, le P intervient simultanément à l'N. Dans un cas d'eutrophisation extrême, l'N, le P et le C sont limitants ensemble. L'addition de métaux, vitamines et chélateurs n'a pas d'effets. Il y a irn bon accord entre les limitations déduites des expériences d'en­richissement et la composition élémentaire du milieu. Les eaux potentiellement limi­tées par l'azote présentent un rapport atomique N : P inférieur à 25. L'accord avec la composition en N et P du seston est moins bon. Les limites de l'application de ces différents indices en lagune Ebrié sont discutées.

"In vitro" enrichment experiments on natural populations have been used to determine the nutrients controlling the potential biomass of phytoplancton in the Ebrié coastal lagoon. The limiting nutrients were generally nitrogen, phosphorus and carbon, in this order ; in three cases out of eleven, P and N act simultaneously ; in an extreme eutrophication case, N, P and C were all limiting. No effect was observed following addition of metals, vitamins or chelators. The limitations deduced from the enrichment experiments show a. good agreement with the elementary composition of the external medium ; in waters potentially limited by N alone, the dissolved inorganic nutrients have a N : P ratio lower than 25. The agreement is poorer when the sestonic N : P ratio is used. The limits of application of these various results in lagoon Ebrié are discussed.
