Abstract In this paper, the author shows why fish can be extremely valuable subjects for the study of a number of behaviour problems of crucial fundamental importance. As this special suitability is based on the capacity of changing rapidly and reversibly the body colouration and its marking patterns, he gives examples of the relation between colours and behaviour in fish.
