L'estimation des stocks de Mollusques non cultivés soulève de nombreuses questions méthodologiques le choix d'une stratégie d'échantillonnage, le niveau des erreurs d'échantillonnage et des erreurs systématiques. le plan retenu s'articule autour de deux étapes : en premier, un pré échantillonnage aléatoire afin de recueillir toutes les informations nécessaires ; puis en second, un échantillonnage aléatoire stratifié après allocation optimale de l'effort d'échantillonnage au sein des strates. les fortes variances liées aux estimateurs (densité, biomasse) proviennent du mode agrégatif de la dispersion spatiale des espèces. L'engin de prélèvement (benne Smith Mac-Intyre) dont l'efficacité n'est pas égale à 1, biaise les estimateurs. L'essentiel des estrans du bassin de Marennes-Oléron abrite la communauté â Macoma balthica dans laquelle le faciès à Cerastoderma eduLe prédomine.

The main problems involved in making biomass and density estimates of benthic mol1uscs are the choice of a sampling plan, the level of systematic errors and random errors. A stratified random sampling after optimum allocation was used in the case. The benthic molluscs estimates (biomass or density) are highly variable, due to their aggregated distribution. The sampling gear used is a Smith Mc-lntyre grab which introduce a bias in the estimates. Nevertheless, the Macoma baLthica community was predominant in the bay but Cerastoderma edul.e appeared to be the dominant specie.
