The observation of the planktonic larval shells of different species of Prosobranches is carried out with scanning electron microscopy (Cambridge, Stereoscan 4). The influence of different fixing agents (non-acetified) on the conservation state of larval shells is not really clear at low magnifications. On the contrary, at high magnifications, the results are clearly better after using an alcohol fixation or without any fixing agent at all. The morphological differences of the larval shells of four species of Philbertia: P. gracilis (Montagu), P. linearis (Montagu), P. leufroyi (Michaud) and P. purpurea (Montagu) are precised. The microstructure of the shells of Firoloida desmaresti Lesueur and Atlanta fusca Souleyet larvae is observed. Scanning electron microscopy revealed important information on the systematic and morphology of the larval shells of Prosobranches. |
