The objective of the Multipso cruise was to further evaluate the location of the proposed ODP drilling sites over the New Hebrides Island Arc (Vanuatu). The principal objectives of the proposed drilling include the study of arc processes involved in arc-ridge collision, back-arc rifting, subduction - polarity reversal, and the formation of intra-arc basins.
